Cava Bomba (Bomba quarry) is the most significant example of industrial archaeology in the Colli Euganei area. The itinerary outside, that includes ancient furnaces and stone crushers, recreates all the stages of lime production, from the end of the 19th to the mid-20th century. There is also an exhibition of the tools used in the past to quarry and process rocks (trachyte, scaglia limestone and marl) in the Euganei territory. Here, quarrying ceased in 1974, when important, 92-million year old fossils were found in a block of dark argillite at the centre of the quarry. The area was later targeted with planting of plant species that love temperate climates and aric calcareous soils.
