Villa Italia (Castle of Lispida)

Via IV Novembre, 4 Loc. Lispida - Monselice

The Castle of Lispida was built on the remains of a 12th-century Augustinian monastery. In 1150, Pope Eugene III confirmed the Augustinian Order’s possession of the hill and of a church consecrated to St. Mary of Ispida. In 1792, Lispida’s monastic activity ceased; Count Corinaldi built the villa on the remains of the monastery and started grape cultivation and wine production activities. The cellars, dug in the mountain rock and covering an area of about 2,000 sqm, are Veneto’s largest historical cellars. During World War I, the villa housed King Victor Emmanuel III’s headquarters, hence the name Villa Italia.
